Pigs, Cows and Chickens in the Valley

Which animals to raise first. All the animals are so cute it is hard to choose from. In order to start getting your money pot to grow don’t look at the cuteness of the animal.

Pigs are the money makers of the group. You will collect truffles once the pigs are full grown. It takes a bit for them to grow but it’s well worth the wait. I would suggest purchasing them at the end of fall to early winter. By the time spring rolls around they are good to go to making you the money. Keep them fed and happy and they will reward your effort.

You will still need goats, cows, chickens and the other animals for not only money but products to make, gifting and collections. They produce but if I am being honest, they don’t make the best bang for your buck.

On the right side is one of the coups I have. You can see the little yellow chick standing near the door. The fowl seem to grow quickly so laying eggs will happen before you know it! Personally, I let all the animal products gather before I pick up and distribute from selling and making what is needed.

I would like to note that the barn and coup in the picture are the premiere and not the standard upgrade that you will at first get.

Buildings will be a topic later on.

Goats and cows produce milk. You will need milk for a few of the recipes that you will need to make. The milk from both will be made into cheese. Cheese is a great product to sell also. If you have casks, add the cheese and bam more cheese but the price to sell is higher. Not to mention this is great to take into the caves with you to add to your energy while fighting. It’s a win, win for this product.

Eggs. Hmm, not a big money maker until you produce mayo. There are also a few recipes that you will need eggs for and also a journal task that needs eggs. I am not a big fan but gotta have them.

Sprinkle in a few ducks and rabbit to complete your barn population. Ducks of course produce eggs. Next the rabbits rabbit feet are a common drop, this is a good product to keep. They do make a decent amount of money just not enough. Plus, the bi products are what you really need.

Sheep will drop wool. The wool is another decent money maker, but you need this to make cloth. Cloth by the bulk has a better price than ordinary wool alone.

Before you add those creatures build the barn(s) first. If possible and you have the required materials upgrade all your buildings. In the beginning that is a task to do. Once you have the building build your fences. I have read that this topic is torn between players. Some love to have the animals’ free range, while others build fences to keep them in one place. Free range is fine just remember you will have to find what they drop. This is more the pig’s dropping truffles. I find it annoying to go hunting for truffles and who has time for that? Whichever you choose it will be the right choice for you and your farm. There is no right or wrong way only your way!

I do let the fowl’s free range. They lay eggs inside the coup picked up by auto collector. Same as the other animals with the exception of the pigs. They drop truffles wherever they stand.

Silos

You will need to build silos to store the hay to feed the animals. The more animals the more feed means more silos. Cutting grass fills the silos. To supplement buy hay from Marnie. No feed? Unhappy animals. Production will be low if they are not happy.

To sum up:

  • Save resources and money to build barns/coups
  • Build fencing and gates if you want too not free range.
  • Purchase or build auto petter, auto collector and heaters
  • Purchase animals

I know that I have not talked about everything needed. There really isn’t a lot but make sure you start with everything you need.

Happy farming!
